Our Story!

Brian and I met in September of 2000 in Gettysburg, PA, got engaged in July, 2004 in San Francisco, CA, and were married in July, 2005 in the city where it all began.  We live in Catonsville, MD, and life really is great is 21228. Brian works as a network engineer and is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve and I am a high school teacher at Mt. Hebron and adjunct instructor for McDaniel College.  We welcomed our lovely little Layla into the world in February, 2009.  She is an amazing little girl and brings much joy and happiness into our lives.

When we decided to expand our family, we hit quite a few pitfalls. After a year-and-a-half of trying, we were given fertility medication, which sadly caused more trouble for us that resulted in me being hospitalized, having surgery, and all told, another 9 month delay.  Thankfully, after the healing process was complete in March, 2012, we were able to move forward with in vitro.  For those of you unaware of the process, it's very cumbersome, and includes a variety of daily medications, self-induced injections, and morning appointments.  We were blessed with support from family, friends, and coworkers. The process is painstaking, and lasts for roughly 2 months.  The doctors retrieved 17 eggs on April 22, 3 fertilized, and they transferred 2 on April 25th.  We got the call on May 10th that I was pregnant! We learned on May 22 that we are expecting twins!  Hopefully, in August, we'll find out what we're having!  We are very excited to add these new additions to our family and hope you'll keep us in your prayers over the coming months.

I am an open book about my experience and in vitro, but decided to spare you the gory details.  If you are going through something similar, or have additional questions, feel free to ask.

So far, this has been an uneventful pregnancy (and frankly, the pregnancy itself was so hard to come by, I think these babies owe me a little something).  They are growing beautifully, and at each appointment have been exactly on target.  Hopefully things will progress in the same fashion.

Q&A...
Do twins run in the family?
No - we did in vitro.
Are they identical or fraternal?
Fraternal - they come from two different embryos.
What can we do to help?
We will need a lot of help when the babies arrive.  We hope you'll be willing to lend a hand.
